A Champion is Crowned: Rockcastle County Mullet Competition Raises Money for FCCLA

Whether you know it as the Tennessee Top Hat, the Kentucky Waterfall, or the Hockey Haircut, the mullet is a prominent staple of pop culture that is still seen today.

Rockcastle County High School held a special competition to celebrate this hairstyle, for a good cause for the FCCLA group at the school. Proceeds from the competition and the vendor fair that took place at the same time this weekend for the Rock the Halls event will go towards allowing the kids to travel to competitions statewide.

Three winners were chosen from categories such as Country Boy Mullet, Hipster Mullet, and Classic Mullet. Contestants came from all over Eastern Kentucky, including here in Richmond, Somerset, and of course, Mt. Vernon.

The award for the best “Hipster Mullet” went to 11 year-old Jacob Camel, Rockcastle County High School’s Coleson Stevens was given the “Country Boy Mullet” award, and Shopville native Raleigh Grimsley took home the top honor of “Classic Mullet”.
