GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — An elderly mother and daughter were killed Saturday when the vehicle they were in collided with a semi-trailer truck on U.S. Highway 27 in Garrard County.
Anne Elliott, 72, and her mother, 87-year-old Marcella White, died in the crash, which occurred around noon where U.S. 27, also known as Lexington Road, intersects with Bastin Road.
The road was closed for several hours. A hazmat crew was also called out to handle oil and gasoline that spilled after the crash.
Kentucky State Police say the car, driven by Elliott, crossed into oncoming lanes and crashed head-on into the semi.
“We’re reconstructing the scene, trying to gather what actually led up to the collision and how the impact happened,” said Trooper Justin Kearney.
Police are investigating whether Saturday’s rain figured into the crash.
