Remains found last week in Irvine determined to be non-human

In an update to that story we brought you exactly one week ago today regarding “possible human remains,” discovered in Estill County.

Estill County Coroner Jimmie Wise tells WBON-TV today he has received confirmation on the bones that were found last Thursday night on Oak Street in Irvine.

The Kentucky Medical Examiner‘s office working with state pathologist and anthropologist confirmed the bones were non-human, and are rather some type of animal remains.

Local authorities and investigators responded to the scene around 9:30 last Thursday night to collect the remains after a call from a homeowner who discovered them. Irvine Police Chief John Sturnolio said the bones were “possible human remains” and stressed the need for further testing and official confirmation, which is what we at WBON-TV reported. Many other news outlets reported the remains were human, before official confirmation.
