64-year-old man airlifted out of Berea’s East Pinnacle after fall

An early morning hike up Berea’s East Pinnacle Friday morning, to capture some beautiful sunrise photos, took an unexpected turn Friday.

Officials tell WBON-TV9 that a 64-year-old man made a misstep and fell nearly 60 feet.  The accident occurred around 8 a.m. Friday morning.  The man reportedly lost his cell phone in the fall, but a nearby resident heard his distress calls and phoned police.

The rescue required the man to be airlifted by Kentucky State Police helicopter out of the dense area and down to the Pinnacles parking lot.  This required what Berea Fire Department officials decribed as a very ‘intricate’ rope rescue.

Although the man’s injuries are unknown, rescuers say he was very alert and is expected to make a full recovery.

In addition to Berea Fire Department, Madison County EMSMadison County Fire DepartmentBerea Volunteer Fire & RescueBerea CollegeKentucky Emergency ManagementMadison County 911Berea Police Department, and Madison-County Sheriff KY all worked the scene Friday.
