A man is currently in custody at the Madison County Detention Center after being ensnared in a sting operation targeting child sex predators.
Kevin Perkins, 30, of Waco, was apprehended following an incident at a residence on Gibson Lane last night, Wednesday, February 21, 2024. Richmond Police Department officers responded to reports of a man allegedly attempting to arrange a sexual encounter with a minor.
When officers arrived, they encountered representatives from an independent organization dedicated to exposing individuals engaging in illicit activities with minors. These representatives informed the officers that they had posed as a 13-year-old female online and engaged in conversations with Perkins.
According to the arrest citation, Perkins had agreed to meet the supposed minor for sexual purposes. During questioning at the scene, Perkins admitted to officers that his intention was indeed to engage in sexual activity with the minor. Additionally, he disclosed that he possessed approximately 200 photos of minors, mostly explicit in nature, stored on his phone. Perkins claimed to have deleted these photos upon being confronted by members of the independent organization.
As a result of the investigation, Perkins faces charges of possession of material displaying the sexual performance of a minor and tampering with physical evidence.
