Governor Andy Beshear was in Richmond today bringing the thing that brings politicians out in a big way, and that’s big checks. Lots of checks, totaling around 5.5 million dollars for various purposes in the County. The Governor made the announcements and presentations at the Telford YMCA on Wednesday afternoon, March 22, 2923.
Other state, county and city officials were also on hand for the check presentations including Deanna Frazier-Gordon, State Representative. Madison County Judge Executive Reagan Taylor, Richmond Mayor Robert Blythe, Berea Mayor Bruce Fraley among others.
The money was doled out to 14 worthy organizations and projects as follows:
Nearly 2.2 million to the City of Richmond. $1,368,000 to the Madison County Utilities District. $640,000 to the Southern Madison Water District. $254,000 went to the Northern Madison Sanitation District. $238,000 to the Kirksville Water Association. $100,000 went to the Salvation Army of Richmond. $100,000 went to the Telford Community Center YMCA. $100,000 went to the Kentucky Music Educators Association. $100,000 went to the Kentucky River Foothills Development Council. $100,000 went to the Habitat for Humanity of Madison and Clark Counties. $32,000 went to CASA of Madison and Clark Counties. $30,000 went to the Madison Hills Christian Church. Approximately $64,000 went to the Richmond Area Arts Council.
The Richmond Tourism Commission was also presented $288,000 earmarked for marketing.
The grants and money delivered by the Governor today were a result funds and grants made available through various sources including ARPA funds, The Non-Profit Assistance Fund, and The Committed Cleaner Water Program.
