Kentucky State Police was dispatched to Estill County High School on Wednesday in reference to a student communicating with a man via Facebook Messenger for the purpose of sex.
Further investigations revealed that 35-year-old Torstein Torstienson initially tried to contact the teen for sex in September 2018, but was unsuccessful. He later on dated one of the teachers from the high school and managed to contact the juvenile. The teacher allegedly knew about the communication but did not report it.
Officials report that Torstienson tried to hide any evidence of the communication by asking the victim to delete the messages between them.
Torstienson was arrested and charged with unlawful transaction with a minor and tampering with physical evidence. He’s currently lodged at the Three Forks Regional Jail.
Superintendent of Estill County Schools Jeff Saylor told WBONtv that the name of the teacher cannot be released as this is an active investigation. However, a teacher did resign, one person is in custody, and he expects another by the day’s end.
UPDATE: Reports say that the teacher has been arrested by Irvine police and is identified as Sherry Murphy.
