Rescue units were called for a boating accident at the Woodson Bend area on Lake Cumberland in Somerset Friday. Two young people died as a result of a tragic accident that involved a boat and two boys on a jet ski.
The boys ages are reported to be 14 and 18 years old. The horrific accident is compounded by the fact the accident was witnessed by other family members on the scene.
The accident occurred around 12:40 Friday afternoon and is being described as a ‘tragic accident.” Squad units deployed boats, divers and extra manpower to assist with this scene. Names have not been released, but the family is reported to be from Villa Hills in Kenton County.
Seargent Wilson with Department of Fish and Wildlife, who is heading up the investigation, says “In my 17 years of service to the department, this is without a doubt the worst case I have ever been involved with.” Wilson says no alcohol, drugs or foul play is suspected. “It is just a tragic, tragic accident.”
Wilson says accident reconstructionist worked into the night in their investigation. “We do just what other agencies do on land, but we have to do it on the water,” Said Wilson.
