10th Planet Martial Arts Richmond, traveled with 3 youth athletes on Sunday December 17th 2023 to compete at the Kumite IV event held in Covington, KY.
The opening bout for the event included Brazil Brown of Cincinnati against 10th planet Richmond’s Tor Lunnenborg. The athletes came out battling for hand position. Lunnenborg defended a single leg takedown attempt early countering with his own double leg takedown. The attempt was stopped and Lunnenborg found himself in deep water with Brown on his back working for a rear naked choke. Lunnenborg was able to defend and work his way to a guard position, and attempted to sweep and attack submissions. Lunnenborgs attempts were defended and he found himself again defending a rear naked choke. With a minute left Tor submitted to the rear naked choke.
Up next came Joey “Captain Quirk” Lopes versus Jackson Sanders of Bright BJJ. The match started fast with both opponents coming out attempting to pull guard. Lopes decided to change his plan and pass the guard of his opponent. He worked through a series of submission attempts and dominate positions before finally settling in on rear naked choke for an impressive submission victory.
The third and final youth fight on the event saw Vitoria “Thug Life” Lopes of 10th Planet Richmond take on Emma Sanders of Bright BJJ. Sanders came out aggressive attempting to jump guard. Lopes immediately defended the guard jump and worked to pass securing a mount position. Once Lopes could feel the attempts to defend the position were over, she worked to secure an arm lock. Vitoria won in impressive time and fashion with a mounted Americana. In her post fight interview she thanked her coaches and teammates from 10th Planet Richmond.
This concludes the 2023 competition season for 10th Planet Richmond. The team will return to the mats January 6th for the 10th Planet Louisville Freedom Sub Only event.
