This weekend brought the Fuji Jiu Jitsu Tournament back to Cincinnati, where 10th Planet Richmond took a handful of youth competitors eager to gain experience—and walked away with 19 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze place finishes.
Despite bringing only eight competitors, and being outnumbered by several large local teams, the 10th Planet Richmond squad performed so well they captured 2nd place as a youth team. Their success didn’t stop there—their combined wins also secured 3rd place overall when youth and adult results were combined, even with only one youth athlete stepping up to compete in an adult division.
One standout competitor was Keegan Moberly, a student at Model Laboratory School, who entered both his actual Beginner division and Intermediate divisions. His sharp execution of coaching details led him to gi gold—an impressive showing in both gi and no-gi competition.
As part of the greater 10th Planet organization, Richmond’s efforts also contributed to a 2nd place finish overall among all 10th Planet affiliates represented at the event. The 10th Planet Berea team also had contributions to the overall success of the 10th Planet organization 2nd place spot with 7 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze place finishes. One competitor, Clarke Christian from 10th Planet Berea earned the top spot for fastest submission of the event with a 2 second finish.
Up next, 10th Planet Richmond will host two of the organization’s top athletes, Geo “Ultrazoid” Martinez and Boogie “Boogeyman” Martinez, as the gym celebrates 31 years of AFS Academy serving the Richmond community.
