10th Planet took a team of adults and youth to the Chewjitsu Open in Louisville Kentucky. With over 400 competitors signed up the team was able to walk away with Best Youth Academy and second place overall Best Academy.
Amongst 10th Planet Richmond competitors to shine was Vitoria Lopes, Keegan Moberly and Linda Mihalec.
Vitoria stepped into a higher rank division to face a tough competitor. The match was initiated with an illegal guard jump which Lopes was able to defend. A second illegal guard jump was attempted and Lopes was awarded a disqualification win. Unhappy with a win by default Lopes unphased by the rough start to the day
went on to secure 3 submission victory’s in subsequent matches to solidify her 1st place medal in both gi and nogi divisions.
Keegan Moberly went into the unique submission only ruleset of Chewjitsu with only 7 months of training under his belt. He earned 2 gold medals and a championship belt by going 5-0 (3 by submission) in his gi and nogi divisions.
Linda Mihalec is a professional mma fighter and competitor out of 10th Planet Richmond. Mihalec made her return to jiu jitsu competition after a hiatus due to injury. The break was no problem as she was able to go into the event and secure 2 submission victories helping earn the adult team a gold medal.
Overall the team earned 17 gold, 15 silver and 4 bronze medals to end the day as the overall 2nd place team of the event and 1st place youth team.
The 10th planet Richmond team plans to attend Grappling Industy in Knoxville in March. Natilee Wells will also travel to Austin March 2nd to compete on the prestigious Main Character Jiu Jitsu event.
