10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Richmond goes 3-1 at Shogun Submission Series

10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Richmond traveled to Cincinnati, OH to participate in Shogun Submission Series on Friday night.

10th Planets Joey Lopes was the second match of 19 on the card. Lopes got caught in an arm bar in the opening seconds of his match. He was unable to mount a defense and lost to an arm bar.

Tor Lunnenborg had a hard fought match that lasted a total of 7 minutes. His opponent was very aggressive and opened up the match by putting Lunnenborg on his back. Lunnenborg was able to regain position going to his guard. Lunnenborg worked hard to keep Albrings posture broken sinking in a deep triangle choke. Albring resisted as

worked for an arm bar from the locked in triangle but was unable to get the finish. The young men fought valiantly and Tor Lunnenborg was able to secure a hip bump sweep and land in mount. Albring mounted a defense eventually pushing Lunnenborg into his guard. Tor Lunnenborg was able to work on passing his opponents guard when the match finally ended after 7 grueling minutes. Tor Lunnenborg was named the victor of the match by referees decision.

Natilee Wells faced a familiar adversary toward the end of the event. Comfortable with the familiarity of her opponent, Wells immediately opened the match by pulling guard. She was able to go to a full closed guard an began breaking down her opponents posture working on her personal favorite position, rubber guard. Wells worked her double bag and eventually flipped her foot to the front of her opponents face grabbing her own foot and beginning to put pressure on Hale’s neck. Within seconds of securing the position, Wells scored the tap and was victorious with a gogo-plata submission, unique to 10th planet practitioners.

Tor Lunnenborg, Joey Lopes, and Natilee Wells were the only three 10th planet Richmond athletes slated to be on the card. However, a no show resulted in 10th Planet Richmond’s Vitoria Lopes decision to accept the offer to be a last minute replacement against Leah Albring. Vitoria was dominant in her efforts to secure excellent positions but was unable to secure the submission. She impressed the judges and was awarded the victory and judges choice for fight of the night. She was awarded a second cash prize for promotion fight favorite.

10th Planet Richmond youth and adult team will compete Saturday November 18th at Fuji Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Tournament.
