10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu Richmond athlete Isaiah Johnson traveled to Pennsylvania over the weekend to compete at the GoodFight Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championships, where he captured a GoodFight World Title.
Qualification for the GoodFight Worlds requires athletes to win a sanctioned qualifying event. Johnson secured his spot earlier this fall when GoodFight hosted a tournament at the YMCA in Richmond, Kentucky, in October.
Johnson entered a stacked bracket of eight competitors, battling through three demanding matches on his path to gold. He opened the tournament with a victory by rear naked choke (RNC) in overtime. In his second match, Johnson wasted little time, finishing by arm triangle choke just 2.5 minutes into regulation. He sealed the championship in the finals with another RNC submission in overtime, earning the world title in dominant fashion.
Up next, Johnson and the 10th Planet Richmond team will travel to Cincinnati to compete at the North American Grappling Association (NAGA) event.
