Two athletes from 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Richmond competed at the IBJJF Chicago Summer Open on Sunday, August 10.
Freshly promoted to blue belt, 16-year-old Vitoria Lopes made her division debut in IBJJF organization. In her first match at blue belt, she opened with patient hand fighting, secured a takedown, and worked into mount to earn 4 points. She began setting up an Americana submission when her opponent attempted a risky escape, resulting in a leg reap and disqualification. Leading 4-0 at the time, Vitoria claimed first place due to her opponents’ disqualification.
Teammate Linda Mihalec was unable to find a match in her Masters 4 division, so she entered Masters 2 instead. Competing in the brown belt division, she fought hard and brought home a silver medal. Next, the team turns its focus to the ADCC Louisville event on September 14.
