Kentucky State Police Morehead was contacted by the Powell County Dispatch for assistance with a fatal collision yesterday, September 23, 2023.
The incident occurred on KY 9009 (Mountain Parkway) near mile-marker 30 around Slade. Through the investigation, Troopers determined that Randy Howell from Pikeville, KY was traveling west on KY 9009, operating a motorcycle when he lost control of the motorcycle causing it to overturn. Charles Roberts, from Pikeville, KY was also traveling west on KY 9009 operating a motorcycle. Mr. Roberts lost control of his motorcycle and overturned while attempting to avoid the collision.
Mr. Roberts was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Randy Howell was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Powell County Coroner. KSP was assisted by Powell County Sheriff’s Office, Powell County EMS, Powell County Fire Department, and Powell County Coroner’s Office. This collision remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police, Morehead.
