A tragedy today at the Paradise Cove Water Park located at Gibson Bay Park in Richmond, where a child has confirmed to have been found unresponsive in the water park this afternoon.
The City of Richmond’s Public Information office issued a statement this afternoon confirming an incident involving a minor.
The city also said they will release more information on the matter when available.
Paramedics and EMT’s responded, along with lifeguards, administering life saving measures. The child was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The Madison County Coroner’s office confirmed the death of the 7-year-old male child to WBON-TV9. The child is believed to have drowned, but an official cause of death is pending further investigation.
The family is from out of town, and all family members have not yet been notified.
The water park remains closed indefinitely according to city officials, who released this statement later today:
The City of Richmond is deeply saddened to learn that the child involved in today’s incident at Paradise Cove has tragically passed away at the hospital.
The Richmond Police Department is actively collaborating with the pool management company to gather all relevant information and conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. The pool will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the child’s family during this incredibly difficult time.
