Resisting Arrest and Assault Lands 75-Year-old Woman in Jail


This past Sunday, Kentucky State Police reported via citation that they responded to a call in the Jessica Circle area in reference to a Domestic Disturbance/Mentally Ill Person.

According to the citation the caller stated that she was physically assaulted by her mother.

Reportedly, after police arrived, they made contact with the mother, identified as 75-year-old Shirley Bartley. Allegedly Bartley refused to answer any questions regarding the complaint.

According to the citation, police spoke with the victim who stated that Bartley is beyond control and got angry at them for cleaning the residence, then allegedly proceeded to grab the victim by the hair and strike her on the left side of her face.

Police report observing swelling and redness on the victim’s face and according to the citation this assault was also witnessed by a child related to the victim in the vicinity.

Reportedly police let Bartley know she was being placed under arrest, but she allegedly refused to leave the residence, even after what police reported were several verbal attempts to persuade her to leave. According to the citation Bartley was then forcefully escorted to one of the cruisers where she continued to passively resist the officers by placing her dead weight on them and refusing to enter the cruiser.

Bartley was eventually forced into the cruiser and lodged in the Madison County Detention Center on charges of Assault 4th Degree and Resisting Arrest.
