Paranoid Episode Leads To Alleged Child Neglect Case


Earlier this week on Monday Richmond police were dispatched to a shots fired call in the Westover Avenue area. The caller advised Police that an alleged Male suspect kicked the door in of a residence and fired a single shot inside the house.

According to the citation, Police arrived at the residence but couldn’t get a response from anyone inside. Police then reportedly received a call from 34-year-old Felix Maggard of Madison County, who allegedly advised officials that he had just shot at someone in his home.

Police made contact with Mr. Maggard and he allegedly purported that a man with a shotgun was in his home, causing him to shoot, miss, and then proceed to run out of the back door.

While interviewing Mr. Maggard, Police say Maggard’s Wife, 35-year-old Makenzie Maggard contacted a daycare, allegedly asking if Mr. Haggard had picked up the kids yet. Reportedly police then spoke with Mrs. Maggard over the phone, who according to the citation stated that she was with Mr. Maggard all day, and he was acting paranoid about a potential robbery and started waving his gun around.

Daycare workers allegedly stated to police that the children were potentially being abused, with bug bites, rashes, and blisters being visibly apparent. According to the citation the house was in disarray, with drugs and drug paraphernalia in arms reach of children.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Maggard were arrested on Criminal Abuse charges of a victim under the age of 12, With Felix Maggard receiving an additional Wanton Endangerment charge along with a Drug Paraphernalia Charge.

Both were lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
