Third officer has died as a result of shootout in Allen Kentucky


The death toll and devastation of Thursday night’s shootout with an armed suspect in the Allen community of Floyd County continues to rise, now with the confirmed the death of another officer in the line of duty at that scene.

WBON-TV9 has learned K-9 officer Jacob Chafins of the Prestonsburg Police Department has succumbed to injuries he sustained in the deadly incident that has left Floyd County community shocked and grieving.

49-year-old Lance Storz used a rifle to shoot at police Thursday afternoon into the night time hours. He was arrested just after 4:45 A.M. Friday and charged with two counts of murder of a police officer and one count of murder. Storz is also charged with five counts of attempted murder of a police officer, and one count of Assault, 1st Degree, on a service animal. More charges are now expected.

Storz remains in the Pike County Detention Center on a $10 million cash bond.
