Man Arrested for Alleged Theft, Damage of Berea College Campus Vehicle


A Mount Vernon man was recently arrested after allegedly stealing an electric cart from the campus of Berea College, which was later valued around $13,000. According to police, on June 13th, the subject identified as Jeffrey W. Ramey rode a bike up to where the electric cart was parked and allegedly stole it.

Police report finding video footage of Ramey riding the vehicle down Scaffold Cane Road thanks to Berea College security officials. Officers report making contact with Ramey, where they continue that he allegedly resisted arrest but was soon detained and transported to the police station. It was there that he divulged the location of the stolen Berea College vehicle.

Officials report finding the vehicle in poor state with it sustaining heavy damage. He was charged with theft by unlawful taking over ten thousand dollars, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief and is lodged in the madison county detention center.
