Morehead man swept away attempting to cross swollen tributary, found deceased


Kentucky State Police, Post 8, Morehead received a call today for assistance from  Morehead 911 Center in reference to a drowning. KSP was advised the incident occurred on Bullfork Road in Rowan County. Reportedly, Eddie Thomas, 80 years of age from Morehead was attempting to cross a swollen tributary in a utility vehicle. The utility vehicle stalled out in the raised water. Mr. Thomas exited the vehicle and attempted to continue to reach the other side of the tributary. While crossing the raised water, Mr. Thomas was swept away in the current. Members of the Morehead Rescue Squad recovered him and he was then transported to St. Claire Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased by Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt.

Kentucky State Police was assisted by Rowan County EMS, Morehead Rescue Squad and Rowan County Coroner’s Office. This incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police, Morehead.
