Numerous Troopers involved in pursuit beginning in Laurel, passing through Madison and ending in Scott County


Many travelers on I-75 reported numerous Kentucky State Troopers in pursuit of a vehicle Wednesday afternoon. Laurel County Sheriff John Root tells us, Laurel Sheriff’s interdiction units and narcotics detectives arrested two individuals on Wednesday night April 13, 2022 at approximately 9:30 PM.

The pursuit began when sheriff’s investigators attempted a traffic stop on West Cumberland Gap Pkwy. approximately 10 miles South of London on a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu. The vehicle refused to stop after Sheriff’s investigators activated their emergency equipment. The vehicle traveled onto I – 75 northbound and continued to flee from Sheriff’s investigators traveling through Laurel County into Rockcastle County, Madison County, Fayette County, and into Scott County onto I-64. Kentucky State Police troopers spiked tires on the suspect’s vehicle at mile marker 71 on I-64 in Scott County. The vehicle continued an additional 4 miles before coming to stop in the median where the driver bailed out of the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident following a short foot chase. A passenger was also arrested in the vehicle. Sheriff’s investigators reported that as the vehicle attempted to flee from Laurel Sheriff’s investigators, that they were throwing items out the window including a white powdery substance.

The two arrested individuals were identified as:

• Driver Joshua Floyd age 32 of S. 30th St., Louisville, KY charged with fleeing or evading police – first-degree – motor vehicle; wanton endangerment – first-degree – police officer is victim; fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot; speeding more than 26 mph over the speed limit. In addition this subject was wanted on an outstanding bench warrant.

• Passenger was identified as William McDowell age 34 of Greystone, Louisville, KY charged with conspiracy to traffic in a controlled substance – first offense. Upon arrest this individual refused to give Sheriff’s investigators his identity information however his identity was determined through investigation. Both individuals were lodged in the Laurel County correctional center.
