Richmond Police took a man into custody following an alleged burglary and robbery.

According to officials, at approximately 05:00 am on Saturday January 22nd, Richmond Police responded to a home on Evansdale Avenue regarding a residential robbery that occurred.

The victims reported a male identified as 32 Errich Schmidt of Waco forcefully entered the residence armed with a knife.

During the burglary, Schmidt allegedly attacked a person inside the home and was able to gain control of a handgun during the struggle. Police continue that Schmidt then fired the firearm inside the residence, took medication, and fled the scene.

While police were investigating the robbery, Schmidt contacted the victims via social media and threatened to return to the residence to use the stolen handgun on them. A few moments later, police say Schmidt returned to the home where he was confronted inside his vehicle, and a standoff ensued.

Police negotiators and the Emergency Response Team responded to the scene, and after approximately two hours, Schmidt surrendered and was taken into custody.
