In a matchup of two top ten preseason teams last night, GRC came to Richmond and picked up a victory over Madison Central 68-63. Central used some hot shooting from Jaylen Davis and good defense in the first quarter to help then build a 20-13 lead at the end of 1.
In the second quarter the Indians would cool off and GRC would start to force turnovers and turn them into easy baskets. The Cardinals would go from down 7 at the end of one to holding a two point lead 36-34 at the half.
The Cardinals would hop on the back of transfer Tanner Walton who came over from LCA to GRC in the third and fourth quarters as he scored ten of his 18 points in the second half and helped them build a double digit lead. But Central fought back and Davis found the range once again from deep on his way to a 23 point performance.
Central had their chances late but a pair of missed free throws and a missed layup when they trailed by two would seal their fate and they would go onto lose 68-63. Davis led all scorers with 23 while Trey Skaggs pitched in with 12 points. Will Hardin added a double a double with ten points and ten boards but was in foul trouble for most of the second half. The Indians will be back in action again at home on Friday when they face Bryan Station.
