Stanton Police: South Dakota Man Arrested on Charges of Robbery and Wanton Endangerment

A South Dakota man has been arrested by Stanton Police officers, after he allegedly committed a robbery at a College Avenue gas station in the morning hours of Tuesday.

The Stanton Police Department reported that they were called to Airport Market in regards to a male subject, later identified as Craig Worm, firing a gun inside the store. Officers from Stanton PD and the Powell County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and located Worm inside a vehicle armed with a handgun.

Authorities say after nearly an hour of negotiations with Worm, he exited the vehicle and surrendered to law enforcement.

According to the Stanton Police Department Criminal Investigations Division, it was revealed that Worm was fleeing South Dakota after allegations of a sexual assault of a minor became known. Officers say Worm purposely committed a robbery in order to trigger a law enforcement response with suicidal intentions.

Worm was lodged in the Powell County Detention Center on charges of 1st Degree Robbery and six counts of 1st Degree Wanton Endangerment.
