KSP Causes Confusion, Controversy with New Cover Photo

In an update to their official Facebook page Tuesday, Kentucky State Police added a new custom cover photo which read, “Our Color is Gray, Our Gender is Trooper”

The post has garnered much attention as well as confusion, as many were uncertain as to what this meant.

The picture, which now has hundreds of shares, comments, and nearly a thousand reactions has seemed to have made Kentuckians either outraged or swell with support for the troopers.

Many in the comment section, and viewers who reached out to WBONTV voiced concerns that this sends a transphobic and mocking message to those across the Commonwealth.

Others on social media were quick to bring up a late 2020 controversy, where an Adolf Hitler quote was used in a KSP training slideshow. However, after this came to light, news reports stated that Governor Beshear was told of the slideshow and that “corrective action would be taken”.

Despite the seemingly convoluted message, many took to the comment section to praise Kentucky State Police and thank the first responders for working on the front lines to keep Kentuckians safe.

WBONtv reached out to KSP for comment, who responded and said that a formal statement will be issued soon. The cover photo has also been changed after 19 hours to a new photo.
