Two charged with animal cruelty after over 250 animals seized in Montgomery County


According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, a search warrant regarding alleged abused animals led to multiple arrests. Police report that Deputies responded to Caring about Treasured Cats at 1925 Hwy 213 in Jeffersonville, Kentucky to execute the search warrant. The warrant was obtained following complaints that animals were being abused at this facility.

Deputies were assisted by an independent Veterinarian and Guardians of Rescue.

Upon arriving at the location, Deputies discovered 102 dogs and over 150 cats at the scene. Several of the animals were suffering from illnesses and disease and living in deplorable conditions according to officers. The Sheriff’s office says that they were unable to release photos due to their graphic nature and the state of the animals.

Officers charged 60-year-old Renee Ann Zaharie of Jeffersonville and 65-year-old William Brian Zaharie of Jeffersonville with Cruelty to Animals, 2nd degree. All animals were transported away, according to police, and will be treated.
