The Kentucky State Police, Post 12 is now investigating an officer-involved shooting that has left one male suspect dead. KSP was requested by Georgetown Police Department to investigate the shooting that occurred on the morning of April 9th in Scott County.
KSP’s critical incident response team arrived on the scene at a McDonald’s and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
The preliminary investigation indicates that police were notified of an individual allegedly attempting to break into vehicles located in the parking lot of the fast food restaurant.
Upon arrival on the scene, Georgetown Police Department report that officers approached the suspect, at which time the individual ran and attempted to break into a vehicle.
The male suspect then turned and pointed a gun at officers. During the course of that confrontation, shots were fired.
The suspect was transported to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Police report that no officers or members of the community were injured during this incident.
Officials say to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, it is KSP policy not to release any additional details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered.
