London Man Arrested Ten Days After Eluding Officers


The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect Wednesday night, 10 days after he eluded authorities in an on-foot pursuit. According to police, 40 year-old Bruce Broughton of London was being sought by Sheriff’s investigators on March 7th.

Deputies say on this day, they observed Broughton operating a vehicle at a high rate of speed on Chaney Ridge Road, and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle allegedly fled and turned into a driveway, where Broughton fled on foot and was unable to be located. Two other individuals in the vehicle were arrested.

Sheriff’s investigators learned that Broughton was wanted as a parole violator and had numerous outstanding warrants. Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies developed information about Broughton’s whereabouts before locating and arresting Broughton at a London business parking lot on March 17th.

Broughton was charged with two counts of 2nd Degree Fleeing or Evading Police, Reckless Driving, and Careless Driving. In addition, Broughton was charged on absconding parole supervision and failure to report to parole officer. Officials lodged Broughton in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
