The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office this morning took a man into custody and charged him with fetal homicide. According to reports, 44-year-old Freddy T. Humfleet of Echo Valley Road in London was arrested early Friday morning around 2 a.m.
The Sheriff’s office had received information from Whitley County Sheriff’s Office that a female victim had been severely beaten by Humfleet, apparently causing her to have a miscarriage of an approximately 10-week-old fetus.
Sheriff’s investigators traveled to the Humfleet residence and conducted an investigation where they learned that Humfleet had allegedly struck the victim with his hands, fists, and a wooden board causing severe bruising and cuts to her face, neck and body.
In addition, police say it was learned that he had choked the female victim, impeding her normal breathing. Investigators continue, saying that as a result of the severe beating, she had in fact miscarried.
The female victim showed Sheriff’s investigators where the alleged fetal remains had been buried in a small blue metal container, covered with rocks and a small commemorative stone placed on top.
As the investigation continued, Deputies also found Humfleet in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine and a glass pipe.
Freddy T Humfleet was charged with fetal homicide – third-degree; assault – second-degree; strangulation – first-degree; possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; possession of drug paraphernalia. Humfleet was lodged in the Laurel County correctional center.
