High Speed Chase Ends in Crash and the Arrest of Two Individuals


The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is reporting an arrest of two individuals, Christopher Quentin Buttree age 45 and Susie Scalf age 46. On Saturday afternoon on Bray Creek Road On the edge of Clay County, Deputies report attempting a traffic stop on a red Ford Mustang approximately 12 miles east of London.

The vehicle failed to stop and fled toward Clay County on Highway 472 at a high rate of speed. Deputies noted the vehicle reached speeds of 115 mph while driving in an extremely dangerous manner passing vehicles on the wrong side of the Road. Buttree’s vehicle then ran off the roadway, striking a large tree on Bray Creek Road disabling the vehicle. Buttree exited the vehicle and threw something out in front of him which deputies later determined to be a 9 MM pistol. Through investigation it was learned that Buttree was a convicted felon. Buttree was also determined to be under the influence. The female passenger Scalf was wanted on a parole violation warrant.

The driver Buttree was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center on charges of operating a motor vehicle influence 1st offense, fleeing or evading police with a motor vehicle, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, speeding more than 26 mph over the speed limit, failure to wear seatbelts, failure to signal, improper passing, wanton endangerment 1st degree with a police officer being the victim.

The passenger was also lodged in the Detention Center and charged with a parole violation warrant.
