During their Wednesday meeting, KHSAA Board of Control members voted on several important decisions regarding Fall & Winter high school sports. The KHSAA are postponing 2020 Fall sports and practices (excluding football playoffs) until after December 13th, and 2020-21 Winter sports season until January 4th.
The decision to postpone all Winter sports impacts activities including basketball, swimming, wrestling, competitive cheer, and dance.
The KHSAA recommends that schools adhere to Gov. Andy Beshear’s travel ban for teams or individuals traveling to states on the current travel advisory listing. Competing against other Kentucky schools whose counties have “red zone” status regarding COVID-19 incidence rates is also recommended against.
The postponements came within hours of the Governor announcing new restrictions in an effort to reduce local COVID outbreaks. The new restrictions will impact many public facilities including schools. Middle and high schools are currently set to remain in remote or virtual instruction until at least Jan. 4, 2021.
