Irvine Police arrested a man early Tuesday morning following an incident involving the Estill County High School Marching Band during a practice session at Estill Springs Elementary School.
Authorities say that 52 year-old William Caudill drove his car while under the influence of alcohol from the parking lot area of the school onto the football field where marching band personnel were practicing. Witnesses say that Caudill’s vehicle stopped a few feet away from the area where the percussion section was located.
According to the arrest citation, a group of 15 individuals consisting of juvenile marching band members and adult staff members ran from the immediate scene in an attempt to escape injury.
Caudill was apparently pulled from his vehicle and held by staff until law enforcement arrived at the school. Police say that a strong odor of alcohol was present when near Caudill.
Officers arrested Caudill without incident and transported him to the Irvine Police Department where he underwent a breathalyzer test. The result of the test reportedly determined that Caudill was “well over the legal limit” regarding blood alcohol content.
Caudill was later transferred to the Three Forks Regional Jail where he is currently lodged.
