On August 14th, the Richmond Teen Center Board will once again be hosting their annual Back to School Bash where they will be giving away backpacks filled with school supplies. The office of Richmond Parks & Rec says this event has always been a crucial and vital part of the Teen Center’s program schedule, providing those in need with the items that are needed to succeed in school. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the format of this year’s event is changing to make it safe for all participants.
The Back to School Bash will take place at the Crabbe Street Parking Lot from 12pm – 4pm (just below Irvine-McDowell Park). The backpacks are for all students from K-12 and include items like notebooks, pencils, pens, folders, and a variety of other necessary materials for the upcoming school year.
The event will be organzied as a drive thru with guests filling out a form on arrival to indicate the student’s age and school. They will then have the backpacks loaded into their vehicles, creating a low contact interaction between guests and staff. There is a limited supply of backpacks available which will be on a “first come first serve” basis.
The Teen Center would additionally like to extend thanks to Anthem Medicaid for providing some of the supplies and conducting a laptop giveaway for a lucky student on the day of the event. This is a great partnership that the Teen Center is thrilled to be a part of.
