KSP Involved in High Speed Rockcastle County Pursuit

The Kentucky State Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on I-75 South near the 72 mile marker in Rockcastle County just after 1:00 pm Thursday. The initial investigation indicated that the vehicle’s license plate was reported as stolen.

The Trooper activated his emergency equipment, and the driver, James Small of Berea, continued traveling south on I-75 at a high rate of speed, before taking Exit 62 in Mount Vernon.  While traveling on KY-461, the vehicle drove in the oncoming lane of traffic, at which time a legal intervention maneuver was performed by KSP, and the car was disabled.  As a result, Small, his passenger, and the KSP Trooper were transported to Rockcastle Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, where they were treated and released.

James Small was arrested and is lodged in the Rockcastle County Detention Center charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking U/$500, Fleeing and Evading 1st Degree, Wanton Endangerment 2nd Degree, No Operator’s License, No Insurance, and No Registration.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Trooper Mike King.  He was assisted at the scene by KSP Personnel, Rockcastle County Sheriff’s office, Mount Vernon Police Department, and Rockcastle County EMS.
