Colonels Begin Tournament Play Tonight Against Tennessee State


The Colonels are playing in the OVC tournament for the first time since 2015. OVC coach of the year AW Hamilton leads his team to the postseason in his second season as the helm. Colonels finished 12-6 in regular season play and earned the four seed and a bye in to the quarterfinals. They will play the five seed Tennessee State tonight.

Colonels swept the Tigers in the regular season, winning in Nashville 81-77 on January 18th and at home 83-62 back on February 20th.

The Tigers advanced last night defeating Morehead State 74-67 in overtime. Carlos Marshall led the Tigers last night with 14 points and Wesley Harris scored 12. Ravel Moody gave the Tigers a spark with 14 points off the bench, Moody averaged only 2 points a game during the season.

EKU placed two players on the All OVC team led by Sophomore Jomaru Brown a 1st team selection. Brown scored his 1000th career point in the season finale last game. Tre King was a 2nd team All OVC selection.

Hamilton was named Conference coach of the year in his second season becoming only the 5th Colonel coach to receive the honor and the first since Max Good in 1987.

Winner of this game plays top seed Belmont Friday night at 8.
