Former Boone Tavern GM Accused of Stealing $69K


A recent investigation by the Berea Police Department ended with a man behind bars, accused of stealing around $69,000 from the historic Boone Tavern.

According to the police report, the former general manager James Smock had allegedly taken around $64,000 from daily deposits and another nearly $4,000 from the house bank that had been stored on the premises.

After refusing to speak to Berea Detectives, Smock then was issued a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested and lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center and charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking Over $10,000.
