East Bernstadt Duo Arrested Following Police Chase

Two men were arrested on Thursday afternoon, following a reported shoplifting at a Corbin Wal-Mart. Deputies had been notified that 2 male subjects had taken items without paying for them and fled through the front entrance.

According to the arrest citation, James Jent and Justin Jent of East Bernstadt had left the parking lot in a yellow Ford Mustang, and were traveling onto West Cumberland Parkway. Two officers who were already on the Parkway immediately noticed the vehicle fleeing the scene.

When the two suspects encountered the deputies, they allegedly made a sharp U-turn in an attempt to evade law enforcement. Authorities activated their emergency equipment attempting to stop the vehicle.

Police say they continued traveling, passing vehicles at a high rate of speed and running a red traffic light. Deputies were eventually able to box the vehicle in, forcing the two suspects to safely come to a stop.

The driver of the car, James Jent, was determined to be under the influence, constituting his third DUI offense. Jent, a convicted felon, was also in possession of a handgun that police found in the vehicle.

In addition, deputies found the two suspects in possession of suspected methamphetamine and meth pipes.

James Jent was charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking (Shoplifting under $500), 2nd Degree Fleeing or Evading police, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence (3rd offense), Driving on a DUI Suspended License (2nd offense), Improper Passing, Improper Turning, Reckless Driving, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, 1st Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Justin Jent was charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking (Shoplifting under $500), 2nd Degree Fleeing or Evading Police, Public Intoxication (Controlled Substances), 1st Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance (1st offense), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
