Sexual education starting at the Kindergarten level could be coming to the Commonwealth, following the proposal of House Bill 296.
The bill, proposed by Democrat Lisa Willner who represents District 35 in Jefferson County, states that “age and developmentally appropriate” topics would be taught in order to educate children.
Representative Willner says that the bill seeks to promote prevention of underage pregnancy. The bill also seeks to teach the curriculum early on to education on sexual abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, and domestic/dating violence.
Parents would have the option to keep their children out of the curriculum, and abstinence education will also be taught. Kentucky lawmakers are considering this bill in the regular session.
