Lady Pirates Return To All A Tournament For 2nd Year In Row

Last season the Lady Pirates accomplished something that hadn’t been done in nearly two decades, they won the 11th region and advanced to the All A tournament. This season they won the region for a second time but faced Bethlehem (17-2), winners of nine straight games and they are one of the favorites to win the All A this season. Last season both teams advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Berea got on the scoreboard first with an Alexiss Newman layup but the Banshees ran off 16 straight to take a commanding 24-6 lead after the opening quarter. Things didn’t get any better for the home team as they were held to only 2 points in the second quarter and shot 0-7 from the floor in the frame. Bethlehem took a 40-8 lead into the locker rooms.

Unfortunately for Berea for the first time in their 6 appearances they fall in the opening round of the All A 64-13. Bethlehem’s shooting was too much to overcome (23-46 50%) and the defense from the Banshees forced the Lady Pirates into 27 turnovers. Berea only shot 5-23 from the floor in the loss.

Berea was led by Chesney Lovins 5 points. Madison Howell, MacKenzie Howell, Alexiss Newman had 2 points each. Maddy King and Emily Maynard adds 1 point each.
