If you live in Madison County, you are aware of the Blue Grass Army Depot. While the close proximity may make some in the area feel uneasy, the Army Depot is taking gradual steps to eradicate the entirety of the chemical stockpile in its possession.
Last Friday saw the destruction of the first container of Sarin, a highly toxic nerve agent, through a special process that utilizes high pressure and temperatures. At the end of the process, the once extremely dangerous substance is reduced to a benign mixture of water and salt.
Blue Grass Army Depot has slated the completion of the destruction for 2024.
