RPD: Altercation Leads to Strangulation and Assault Charges for Richmond Man

A Richmond man was recently taken into custody on charges of strangulation, 4th degree assault, and resisting arrest following a call to Baptist Health Richmond.

According to the citation from the Richmond Police Department, officers arrived at the hospital to speak to the victim, who stated that her partner, Carlos Igo, started an altercation when he found that she was moving out of their shared home.

The victim told police that Igo allegedly punched her in the face at their home, and continued to do so after he knocked her to the floor, then proceeding to allegedly attempt to strangle her.

Police noted that she had bruising on her face and neck, and noticeable swelling. Officers then spoke with Igo, who admitted to the fight but refused arrest. Officers note that they had to repeatedly attempt to take Igo into custody, as he said he was not going to jail.

After a brief struggle, Igo was taken into custody and lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
