Several other school systems across the central Kentucky region have now decided to close their doors temporarily until the flu and other illnesses run their course.
Counties like Jackson, Harlan, Lewis, and Leslie have all ceased normal operation for Friday. While some counties like Lewis and Owsley have implemented NTI days during their days off, some school boards have deemed the severity of the various illnesses to be too high to even conduct them.
According to a social media post on their page, Jackson County Public Schools stated that they “seriously considered having an NTI Day, but due to so much sickness, including Type A and Type B Flu, felt it would not be a productive day.”
Jackson County, along with other public school systems, are instead utilizing this day off to sanitize their facilities before students and teachers come back next Tuesday after Martin Luther King Day.
