Berea Woman Hospitalized, Man Jailed Following Alleged Strangulation and Assault


A woman was hospitalized and a man taken to jail on strangulation and assault charges following a scuffle in Berea Sunday.

According to the Berea Police citation, officers responded to the scene on Barnes Lane early Sunday morning to the report of an assault, and were met with Marcus Peters.

Peters told police that the victim had gotten mad and left the apartment. She was located nearby, and had alleged swelling and red marks on her face, ears, and temples according to police.

The victim stated that she and Peters got into an argument over his phone activity, and he allegedly began hitting her in her face and later strangling her until she passed out. She told police that she grabbed her phone and started recording the altercation, but the phone was never recovered by officers.

When she woke up, the victim added that she had woken up feeling strange, and that the phone had been smashed by Peters. The victim was taken to the hospital and Peters was lodged in the detention center on charges of 1st Degree Strangulation and 4th Degree Assault.
