Alleged Theft Lands Richmond Utilities Worker in Hot Water


A Richmond Utilities employee is now behind bars after allegedly stealing multiple water meters over the course of several months and receiving money for them by selling them as scrap metal.

According to the citation, the combined value of the water meters totaled at over $19,000. 37 year-old Benjamin Thacker reportedly admitted to taking the meters apart and recovering the brass from inside. Police say that he kept the money received from this process to himself.

Thacker was arrested by Richmond Police and lodged in the Madison County Detention Center and charged with 1st Degree Criminal Mischief and Theft by Unlawful Taking over $10,000 but under $1 Million.
