Sign honoring Constable J.B. Marcum to be installed in Madison County


By action of the Kentucky General Assembly, Kentucky Route 956 in Madison County will be designated the “Constable J.B. Marcum Memorial Highway.”  The portion of roadway is from the intersection with Interstate 75 to the intersection with United States Route 25.

Mr. John Bryant “J. B.” Marcum Sr. worked for the Madison County Board of Education for 22 years, primarily at Madison Southern High School, and Foley Middle School.

J.B. Marcum served the citizens of Berea, and Madison County for 42 years as the District 1 Constable.  He was the longest-serving elected public official in the Commonwealth.  Mr. Marcum was a dedicated member of Bethel Baptist Church in Berea. 

He was a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the Kentucky Constables Association.  Mr. Marcum dedicated a large portion of his life to serving the citizens of Madison County as an honorable, selfless, and caring individual.

The sign installation will take place during the week of January 6 – 10, 2020.  The milepoints for placement will be between 0.137 and 1.393 in Berea, Madison County.
