This past month saw the closure of one of Richmond’s most well-known local restaurants. According to a social media post on their page, Meeples Restaurant & Cafe ceased operation as a dine-in location on December 13th.
This comes after six years of operation at their West Main Street location. The casual eatery not only offered a variety of lunch and dinner options, but also a place for families and college students to play some of their favorite board games.
A portion of the post, authored by the restaurant’s owner Ron Flickinger, expresses gratitude to patrons of the establishment. “I can’t express how much I appreciate everyone’s love and support over the years for what started as a little board game cafe in Richmond”, the post reads.
Fans of the laid-back cafe shouldn’t be too disheartened though, as Flickinger states that a a new business will be opened in the familiar Main Street location. The new restaurant, dubbed Craft Restaurant & Artistry, will offer some of the fan-favorite Meeples menu items like bubble teas and Mad Scoops ice cream.
According to the post, the upcoming restaurant is also expected to feature art by local artists and offer event space for craft classes and parties.
Craft Restaurant & Artistry will be operated by former Meeple’s manager, Ashley Gallaher, and is slated to open in early January 2020.
