The number four story of 2019 takes us back to Berea as we remember the 2019 Lady Pirate basketball season where they advanced to the All A classic for the first time since 2000.
Coming off a 10 win season the Lady Pirates won 22 games, 14 of the first 16, and claimed the 11th region All A tournament with wins over Model and Frankfort. Playing in front of a home crowd at Alumni Coliseum Berea defeated Wolfe County in the opening led by senior Adreienne Beggs wgo scored 27 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. In the quarterfinals Berea faced West Carter and fell 70-40.
With the All A tournament over the Lady Pirates turned their attention to winning the district for the first time since 2003. The last time Berea appeared in the 11th region tournament was in 2007. After the All A Berea went 3-3 and fell to Madison Southern 48-30 in the opening round of the district.
On March 5th the city of Berea honored team with their own day.
Berea returns every player from last seasons team except Adrienne Beggs who graduated. The loss of Beggs is a big hole to fill and this spring the team also lost sophomore Mati Stepp to an injury for the season but even with the loss of their top two scorers from a season ago they sit at 4-3 this year with a district win over Madison Central.
