Richmond Police recently responded to a home in reference to multiple tools allegedly being stolen from a construction site. Police made contact with the builder, who reported that he was checking on the progress of the build when he observed Derek Dewayne Chesser allegedly standing near a truck at the location on Shelby Court. He said that Chesser then left in a truck shortly after his arrival.
A trailer was reportedly found with the lock assembly cut off. It was later found that multiple tools had been taken, totaling over $2,300. It was also noted that the trailer would have to be fixed, which would cost $200.
Police located the truck and Chesser on Willis Branch Road. Chesser allegedly admitted to police that he did in fact steal the tools, and that he had previously been caught in the Louisville area for similar crimes.
Chesser was arrested without incident according to police, and charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking over $500 and 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief and lodged in the Madison County Detention Center, where he remains.
