As we continue counting down the top ten story’s of the year we come to the drafting of former Madison Southern Eagle Damien Harris.
Damien played for the Eagles and became not only one of the greatest players to ever play for Madison Southern but one of the greatest to ever play in the state of Kentucky. While in high school he rushed for 6748 yards, (11th best at the time in history), and scored 122 touchdowns (113 on the ground which was second best in history at the time).
At Alabama Harris played behind and with great running backs and didn’t have the chances most other top running backs had, his touches were limited by platooning and in many cases Alabama with a big lead where he would be rested. In his four seasons at Alabama he rushed for 3070 yards and 23 touchdowns and left as the schools 8th leading rusher.
Damien was drafted 87th overall by the New England Patriots and signed a 4 year deal worth more than $3.6 million dollars that includes a signing bonus worth $888,319. He became only the 5th player from Madison County to play in the NFL.
